Product Care & Safety

Natural Wax Candles

To ensure an even burn, you should burn the candle until the melt pool reaches the edge of the container. Depending on candle size, this will typically take 1-2 hours. This is particularly important the first time you burn a candle and failure to do this will lead to the candle wax 'tunnelling' in subsequent melts.

Do not burn a candle for more than 4 hours at a time.

Trim the wick to 5mm before lighting (apart from the first time when the wick will be the correct length) and remove any wick debris from the candle. Keep wick centred and free of any foreign objects.

Do not place the candle directly onto sensitive surfaces.

Do not touch the glass container when the candle is lit or shortly after extinguishing as it may be hot.

The last portion of wax (circa 10mm) is unusable in a jar candle. This is for two reasons: (I) Wicks have to be attached to a retainer / base so that they can be fixed to the jar base (see picture below) as without this the wick would float freely in liquid wax and the as a result candle wouldn't function correctly and (II) Jars are designed with their base slightly inverted which helps them to stand (as otherwise any minor imperfection would cause them to wobble). So the combination of these two issues means the last portion of wax (circa 10mm) cannot be burnt in any Jar candle. To help offset this we use jars that are slightly larger than required so that we can put in slightly more wax than required. When recycling the Jar, this residual wax can be scraped out and could be used over indirect heat (from a tealight) in an essential oil burner.

If wax is on skin, wash with soap and water.

If skin irritation occurs, seek medical advice.

Safety:

Never leave a burning candle unattended.

Keep away from things that can catch fire.

Keep away from children and pets.

See specific candle jar for further fragrance specific information.

Reed Diffusers

Always use a coaster and do not place diffuser bottle directly onto sensitive surfaces or on electrical items as accidental spillage may cause damage.

Remove lid and place reeds in Diffuser Oil. Allow Reeds 24 hours to absorb the oil then remove and carefully (and gently) flip the reeds so that the wet end is at the top. Thereafter flip the reeds weekly (or as required) to refresh the fragrance.

For a more subtle scent reduce the number of Reeds used.

Keep away from direct sunlight and heat sources to avoid drying out the Reeds.

If the oil spills clean immediately as it may damage the surface / material it comes into contact with.

Safety:

Flammable. Do not store or use near a flame, heat source or flammable materials.

Do not light Reeds.

Keep away from children and pets.

Do not swallow or inhale directly. If ingested seek medical advice immediately.

Avoid contact with eyes and skin. In case of conbtact with eyes rinse immediatrely with water and seek medical advice. Wear suitable gloves when handling the oil. If the oil gets on your skin wash thoroughly with soap and water. If skin irritation occurs, seek medical advice.

See specific diffuser bottle for further fragrance specific information.

Product Information

All of our candles and diffusers are premium handmade products. They are designed to not only smell good but also to look good - whether in your home, at work or in a hospitality setting (hotel / bar / spa etc). Our commitment to the aesthetic of our products is obvious from the packaging, the jars and bottles used and even to the mailer boxes we use to send the products to you.

We use apothecary style amber glass jars for our candles. There are a couple of reasons for using these rather than the typical candle jar. Firstly, they look far better - whether with a candle lit inside or, just as importantly when the jar is just sitting on your desk, sideboard, worktop etc. When you consider that the candle will probably only be lit for a small percentage of the time you have it, you begin to appreciate how important it is to be aesthetically pleasing. When the flame is lighting, the contrast between the dark amber glass and the brightness of the flame is both visually attractive and relaxing. Turn off the lights in the room and you’ll see what we mean. The candle jars have a metal lid which also provides a nice contrast and importantly we are doing our utmost to avoid using plastics from an environmental perspective. Both the jar and the lid can be recycled and we’d encourage you to wash them out and to re-use them for storage.

We also use the same apothecary style glass for the Reed Diffusers which come in an Amber Glass Bottle. Again the focus here is not just the fragrance but also the aesthetic. Typically a Diffuser will last 3-4 months so if you're going to be looking at it for that length of time, apart from smelling good it also needs to look good

Sustainability

We are committed to minimising our impact on the environment. Our main focus is to avoid using plastic given how harmful it is. At present the only plastic we use in our products or packaging is the cap on the diffuser bottles. There is no other plastic in our products or in our packaging so we can genuinely say we are virtually plastic free. We tried using a metal cap on the Diffuser Bottle but it just doesn’t seal the bottle as well as the plastic cap so we’re continuing the search for an alternative so that we will be able to say that we are 100% plastic free.

We only use natural (renewable) plant based waxes rather than the traditional paraffin (petroleum) based waxes. Not only are our waxes plant based but we also deliberately avoid wax from genetically modified (GM) crops. All of our Candles are vegan.

Our Reed Diffuser base is a bio based solvent made from a renewable source while the Fragrance Oils we use are all phthalate free.

In terms of packaging materials, we use re-cycled cardboard / paper where possible and use paper based materials to fill voids in our shipping boxes rather than any of those annoying plastic based loose fill chips / materials.
